Nevada is home to 2,414,807 people. The capital is Carson City. There are 11,365 people in state prison and 12,521 people on probation.

Both cocaine and heroin are available throughout the state brought in by cartels from California. Methamphetamine has become the most commonly encountered drug throughout the state. Much of it is brought in by the cartels as well. MDMA and other club drugs are becoming a problem in the club and rave scenes. Marijuana is available throughout the state and remains a problem. Oxycontin is a growing concern throughout the state.

Nevada has a crime rate 24% higher than the national average. 85% of crimes reported in Nevada are property crime.

The first and second offense of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana by a person over 21 is a misdemeanor and carries a sentence of drug rehabilitation and a $600 fine for the first offense and a $1,000 for the second offense. Anyone under the age of 21 in possession of less than an ounce can be charged with a felony and serve 1 to 4 years in prison and be fined $5,000 although probation is usually granted for the first offense. Any sale is considered a felony and is punishable by 1 to 6 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. If the sale occurs 1,000 feet from a school zone the penalty and fine are doubled. First offense sale to a minor is 1 to 20 years with an unknown fine. A second offense is life.

There is a no tolerance drugged driving law in effect in the state of Nevada.

Every day the police will make about 40 drug arrests and 30 DUI arrests.

Every month there will be about 60 alcohol related deaths and 10 illegal drug overdoses throughout the state.
