This year the police in Virginia will make 46,550 arrests for drug charges and 35,300 for DUIs. The state of Virginia will also lose 2,140 people to alcohol use and 450 people will die from drug use.
The state of Virginia has law enforcement in a panic with cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. Even though meth is not commonly found, there have been increases in the amount of labs that have been found showing that the demand for it is growing. Heroin has a longstanding abuse population. The quality of the heroin found has been above average and popular amongst the teenagers and young adults. Cocaine, in its form, powder and crack, are big throughout the whole state. The violence that is associated with the trafficking of cocaine has been on the rise.
Marijuana is the most popular drug available in Virginia and the most liked. The common grade found is mid level and imported from Mexico and transported through the Western U.S., higher grade marijuana can also be found. It has been brought in through the Canadian border. If a person is caught with any amount of marijuana it is misdemeanor with up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
The state of Virginia also houses 370,850 marijuana users, 161,500 people who are abusing prescription drugs, 60,500 people who are using some form of cocaine and 3,500 heroin addicts.
