Alpine

Alpine, CA has a population of 13,143 residents and is located in unincorporated San Diego County. Within the county there are roughly 55 cannabis users, 25 misusing prescription medication and 10 people addicted to cocaine. The police will make 7 drug related arrests and 5 driving under the influence arrests during the calendar year. The crime index on a scale of 0 (low) to 100 is 48.

 

In San Diego County 50% of all deaths related to drugs are comprised of cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and psychedelic drug overdose. 7 people were sent to prison for possession convictions back in 1980, by 1999 there were over 1,000 being sent to prison for a possession conviction.

 

SAMHSA, Office of Applied Studies, conducted a survey in 2006 on current drug use. They found that percentage wise individuals who are over the age of 25 are less likely to be current drug users than people between the ages of 12 and 25. However, there are more people over the age of 25 using drugs than drug users between the ages of 12 and 25. 6.1% of individuals over the age of 25 have used drugs within the past month, 9.8% of individuals between the ages of 12 and 17 have used drugs within the past month, and 19.8% of individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 have used drugs within the past month.

 

SAMHSA found that only 8.8% of people over the age of 18 and employed full time currently use illegal drugs. 9.4% of people working part time currently use illegal drugs and 18.5% of adults currently unemployed currently use drugs.  

 

23.9% of youths have said the reason they are didn?t get treatment when they knew they needed treatment for their drug addiction problem was because they are ?not ready to stop using.? 8.2% said it was because there was ?no program having the type of treatment? they were looking for.
