Within Carpinteria are 700 cannabis users, 300 residents misusing prescription medications, 100 residents are addicted to cocaine, 50 residents using psychedelic drugs, 30 residents using inhalants, and 10 residents are addicted to heroin.
Within the first quarter of the year the police will make about 20 drug related arrests and 15 driving under the influence arrests.
According to the national crime index Carpinteria is tied with the national average at 3 out of 10 on both violent and property crimes. There were 28 violent crimes and 179 property crimes reported to law enforcement during the 2005 calendar year.
